37 Week Appointment

(Photo taken 11-2-14, at 37w2d)

My 37 week appointment was on Monday, November 3 (37w3d). Everything checked out just fine, as usual. :)
(I did test positive for Group B Strep, so I guess I might have to go in a little earlier during labor to start IV antibiotics for that.)

The appointment stats were:
weight - 192
blood pressure - 102/68
fundal height - 37 cm
fetal heart tones - 140's/150's

After the appointment, Mom and I did our grocery shopping and ran into Genevieve at HyVee. :) She had just come from her appointment - she was due on 10/31.

Last night, John and I packed our hospital bags as much as we could (last minute toiletry items and snacks will be grabbed at the last minute). Today, I'll be working on the baptismal gown. Hoping to get that done within the next few days, if possible! Tomorrow, I will be 38 weeks and my baby shower is scheduled for 7 pm. Feeling a little more ready all the time! (Would like Baby to wait until at least 39 weeks though, so that Mom and I can clean the house next week, as planned; and Katie and I can go to lunch before Baby comes. Rose will also get home from Europe the day before I am 39 weeks. So anytime after 39 weeks [November 14] is fair game, haha!)

36 Week Appointment

I had my 36 week appointment this morning (at 36w3d) with Eileen. Mom came along. :) The stats were:
(my) weight - 193 lbs
(baby's weight is still unknown ;-))
blood pressure - 118/80
fundal height - 36.5 cm
fetal heart tones - 140's

I did the Group B Strep swab this morning... hoping that comes back negative, but we'll see! The UA dip was negative.

I go back in one week - Monday, November 3 at 9:40 am...

36 Week Update

Just a quick update to say that things have been going very smoothly, considering I'm now in the home stretch. :) My appointments have been uneventful...

The stats from my 28-week visit (September 3) were as follows:
Hgb - 11.9
Glucose - 92
Weight - 187 lbs
BP - 108/80
FHT's - 148 bpm
Fundal Height - 30 cm

Most visits, the baby's heart-rate is 130's or 140's. I was gaining weight pretty steadily at a pound/week, then lost a pound over a 2-week period (which didn't concern the midwife at all, because my fundal height had increased and baby was moving).

At my last visit (October 15; 34+ weeks), my fundal height was only 33 cm (after being at or slightly above my gestational week all along), but it might have been because I was seeing Victoria for the first time, and she may just measure slightly differently than the others? We'll see what it is at this next appointment (scheduled for Monday, October 27). After this one, I'll be going weekly! (Weight at my last appointment was 191, up 25 pounds since my first OB visit.)

I started taking Dr. Christopher Birth Prep Formula pills at 34 weeks and had my first cup of "Third Trimester Tea" (red raspberry leaf and some other things) yesterday at 35 weeks, 5 days. I'll be adding Evening Primrose Oil (orally) starting tomorrow/36 weeks.

Symptoms-wise, I've been tired and not sleeping well (sleeping lightly/waking often, sometimes hard to get comfortable). I don't have to get up and use the bathroom every single night, although one trip during the night is getting more common than it used to be.
Heartburn has only happened a few times and is easily and effectively treated with generic Tums. I had a lot of diarrhea the other night, which Mom and Dad thought might be due to the Dr. Christopher pills, but I think it was more related to some questionable cantaloupe I had eaten earlier that day. I'll keep an eye on that though, as I increase the dosage of Dr. Christopher pills each week.
Throwing up has also made a come-back in the 3rd trimester... It doesn't happen often (maybe an average of 1-2 times every two weeks), but it almost always happens first thing in the morning and there seems to be a correlation with my being extra tired (after shorter-than-usual nights or worse-than-usual sleep).
I have some short stretch marks on my upper thighs and, just this morning, noticed that I might have some small ones starting on the underside of my belly. I also do seem to be having increased discharge, compared to normal.
I've been watching/feeling for braxton-hicks contractions - especially after taking the Dr. Christopher birth prep pills and after the red raspberry leaf tea - but I can't tell for sure if/when I'm having them. I will notice tightening/hard belly sometimes, but I can't tell if it's baby's position stretching me taut or a BH contraction. Certainly nothing with any kind of pattern or distinct start-climax-end to it.

Baby had a crazy-busy activity day (SO much kicking and movement!!) the day we took Rose to the airport for her trip to France (October 20 - I was 35w2d). Since then, movement has been back to its normal frequency or maybe a little less frequent, which is not surprising since the baby's probably running out of room in there. :)

I'll be 36 weeks tomorrow! That's pretty hard to believe! (On the other hand, I can't imagine getting even bigger for the next 4-6 weeks. :-O) We still have some getting-ready to do before I'll feel completely ready for Baby... We have our "last before baby" date night this Saturday (reservations at 715 in Lawrence :)). John is going to clean our cars this weekend and probably install the carseat bases. I need to cut out and sew the baptismal gown! My baby shower is scheduled for Friday, November 7 (38 weeks)... Once that has come and gone, I'll know what's left to get (nursing pads? baby thermometer?) before baby comes. I'll get those things, wash anything from the shower that we know we'll keep (might hold off on washing gender-specific, tags-still-on clothes in case I need to return them), finish setting up the baby's dresser, pack the hospital bag and hopefully be ready at that point! I really hope the baby comes on his/her due date (Friday, November 21), partly because of the feast day (the Presentation of Our Lady) and partly because that would give John that weekend to spend with us - without missing work - and then he'd only have to work 3 days before having a 4-day weekend for Thanksgiving. We'll see what happens though!

"Bump" Updates

I haven't been updating the blog consistently the last 10+ weeks, so here is a quick update of the Bump Progression:

25 Weeks - and Hiccups

Brief update this morning. I am 25 weeks today (according to a November 21 due date); and this morning at 4:15 as I was lying in bed unable to fall back asleep, I think I felt Baby hiccuping for the first time! :) I was lying on my right side and my left arm was across the lower part of my belly and I felt a faint, rhythmic bumping - not as hard as some kicks and too slow to be my own pulse. It quit soon after I felt it (maybe 45 seconds of rhythmic "bumps"?), but I had gotten excited and that is probably why I couldn't fall asleep again until almost 6! ;-)

(One other update: current weight on our home scale as of this morning/25 weeks was 179.0 lbs; so I'm up 14.5 pounds in 25 weeks so far. If I continue at the "textbook" one-pound-per-week average from now on, I'm in for a total weight gain of about 30 pounds. Hoping it won't be more than that! I really don't want to see 200-anything on the scale.)

15 weeks to go!

Bump Buddies - Cousins in the Making

Mary was 38 weeks along and I was 24 weeks (and a couple of days :)) along when we all got together on Sunday, August 3 to celebrate my 28th birthday. Won't be too much longer and she'll be holding a baby and my bump will be closer to the size hers is now! ;-) And then a little while after that and we'll both be holding our babies! Can't wait to meet them, find out their genders, see what they look like, and get to know these precious little ones!

Weeks 23 and 24

About Week 23, I noticed for the first time that I could see Baby's movements/kicks on the outside - not just feel them! Since then (I am now 24w4d), they have become visible more frequently.

Baby's movements also seem to be getting stronger... I'm not sure if my placenta (which was anterior) has shifted or if I can now feel the baby through the placenta better. It used to be that I only felt movements down low or off to the left. Last night, I felt and saw them over on the right; and I have felt them up high (a few centimeters above my belly button) a few times.

A new symptom that kicked in last week is constipation - possibly because of being on retreat from July 28 through August 2 and the diet changes that happened in conjunction with that; possibly just because of pregnancy. I almost never have trouble with that basic function, so I have a newfound compassion for those that do - it can be so uncomfortable! :-/

This was my pre-retreat belly picture. ;-) I was 23w3d.

My next appointment is 2 weeks from yesterday (on Monday, August 18) - and after that, appointments will be every 2 weeks until I'm 36 weeks along! :)

Godparents

On Friday evening, July 25 (Katie's 29th birthday), we asked James and Katie if they would be the godparents for our little one. :) They accepted. We know the baby will be in good hands and they will pray for him/her!

Recap of Weeks 17 through 22

Life has been really busy lately and I haven't made the time to update the blog, so I thought I'd do a quick recap today of what I can remember from the past several weeks!

17 weeks - I don't remember anything of much significance, except I think I finally started to feel better between 17 and 18 weeks. :)

18 weeks (Monday night, June 16 -- the night before I "turned" 18 weeks, based on a November 18 due date) - I felt the baby move for the first time! It felt like someone had flicked me gently from the inside. I felt it a couple of times and it made me feel soooo much closer to the little one!! I felt like I could start getting to know the baby and was so happy to feel some "feedback" to affirm that there was a little living being in there. :)

19 weeks - We went to Colorado with Mom and Dad. The drive out there was pretty uncomfortable on my back and I was really stiff that first night (June 22). The short night before we left and the long day of travel was absolutely exhausting and I kind of fell apart the night we got there - it felt like my body shut down and I just needed to go to bed as soon as possible! Other than that, the trip wasn't bad at all. And Baby got to go on his/her "first hike". ;-)

20 weeks - Mom came with me to my prenatal appointment on Tuesday, July 1. We saw Norla that day and Mom recorded the baby's heart tones, so that John could hear them later. :) Private video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zoo2XyLz1ak
I measured 20.5 cm at that appointment and baby's heart tones were in the 150's/160's (Norla thought that may have been because the baby was moving around). My weight was 177.5 (eek! An 8-lb weight gain in 5 weeks)... up 12 pounds from my first appointment at 10-1/2 weeks. I think my blood pressure was 112/80 or something like that at my 20-week appointment.
I've been working out a couple of times a week pretty faithfully since I was about 16 weeks. Here's a little bit of evidence from July 7 (20+ weeks). :)

21 weeks - We had our anatomy scan on Thursday, July 10. That was so exciting! John took a long lunch from work and we were able to spend quite a bit of time looking at Baby's head, hands, torso, legs... even down to taking a measurement of the fingers, which measured 22w0d (so maybe they'll be long?). :) I found out that my placenta is currently anterior, which explains why I don't feel as much movement as others report at this point in the pregnancy. I feel most of the kicks low down or off to the left side of my belly; but never feel much in the middle or to the right side.
We resisted the temptation to find out gender, so it'll be a surprise at birth! Dad changed his mind from his original boy prediction to saying that he thinks we'll have a girl, after he saw the ultrasound pictures (they didn't show the give-away goods) - but wouldn't elaborate on why he changed his mind. I also feel more convinced that it might be a girl, because the baby just looked a little more "dainty" on the sonogram... the legs were crossed, and the hands were up by the baby's head. That doesn't really mean it's a girl; but I'm leaning that way. :) John said he's up in the air; he has no idea what it's going to be. Here are a few pictures from the sonogram. :)

the little, crossed feet :)

a shot of the face - baby's mouth was open, and you can see the fists near the lower jawline

22 weeks - On Monday night, July 14, John felt the baby move for the first time! It was a really sweet moment and very exciting. :) He tried to feel the baby every night the following few days and he/she wasn't cooperating/moving; but he finally felt the baby the second time the following Saturday night (July 19) and Sunday (July 20).
Here is my 22-week picture. :)

Mary's baby shower was Sunday, July 20. She was 36 weeks and I was 22+. We got a blurry picture together. :) Hopefully we'll be able to take a better one before she has her baby!

(23 weeks) -
According to the sonogram due date of Tuesday, November 18, I'll be 23 weeks tomorrow. According to my LMP/ovulation dates (due date of Friday, November 21), I'll be 23 weeks on Friday, July 25.
I had a prenatal appointment today, and the midwife said that they hadn't changed my due date because it was such a small discrepancy. So while I've been counting my "weeks" on Tuesdays, I guess I'm still officially due on a Friday.
All that to say that that is why the week-age in this post is sort of vague. :) I guess babies come when babies come, and the due date is really a technicality anyway. :)

In conclusion, I had my most recent prenatal appointment this morning (with Eileen this time). I measured 23 cm (at 22w3d), which she said was perfect. My blood pressure was 117/70. Weight was 177.0 (yay! No weight gain the last 3 weeks; so the 8 lbs I gained the previous 5 weeks averages out to 1 lb/week which is "textbook"). Baby's heart tones were in the 130's/140's and Eileen said the baby was moving around in there while she tried to pinpoint the heartbeat.
She read the report from my sonogram and said that everything checked out and looked good. She said that they didn't mention any evidence of the small bleed I had had. That was the first I had heard of it; but she said that my first sonogram report had indicated a small bleed that seemed to be self-resolving at that time... and must have resolved soon after, since no mention was made of it in the second sonogram report. (Good to know!)
I asked her what her thoughts were on Dr. Christopher's Birth Prep pills (which I've heard of people around here taking). She said a lot of their patients take them and they do seem to help; she just mentioned that, because they contain red raspberry leaf tea among other things, they don't recommend starting them earlier than directed (which is 34 weeks) because they can and do cause/increase contractions. I asked her about taking glucosamine and/or collagen supplements (Rose said they help her rebuild more quickly after a workout and she thought they might help my body cope with the stretching and changes of pregnancy). Eileen didn't know offhand what effects they might have, but said she'd look it up.
We also went over the signs of pre-term labor: menstrual-like cramps, backache, increased discharge (and/or watery leaking) from the vagina, and/or a lot of pressure down low. She said that if I experience any of these, they would recommend drinking a glass or two of water, taking a bath, and/or lying down to rest since those symptoms can be caused by dehydration or over-exhertion. If such symptoms persist, I shouldn't waste any time in contacting them as pre-term labor can be serious. I had actually just experienced something like that before my appointment - I was really crampy-feeling before this morning's WOD, but I drank 25-30 oz of water and the cramps went away.
She asked if I had found a pediatrician yet, and I told her I was going to ask my dad/Dr. Carroll if he'd be okay with being the pediatrician for his grandchild. :) She hadn't made the connection that Dr. Carroll was my dad, and thought that was really neat. She did remember that my sister-in-law was also a patient of theirs. In the course of conversation (and asking about glucosamine, etc), I mentioned that my dad, sister, and I (and brother - though I didn't say that :)) do Crossfit, which she seemed to have heard of and thought that was really neat. She said, "Your dad sounds like a pretty incredible person, from everything I've heard about him!" I just said, "He definitely has that reputation!"
Since I am 22+ weeks at this point and they like to do the glucose test at 28 weeks, we decided that I'd come back in 4 weeks for a 26-week appointment and then start coming every 2-weeks after that to get back on schedule. (Usually, the every-two-week appointments are after 28-weeks; so we're just starting a couple weeks early.) So my next appointment is Tuesday, August 19 at noon. (Maybe Mary will have had her baby by then!!)

A summary of symptoms that I have and haven't had ~
Heartburn - although I've had acid reflux a couple of times, I haven't had full-fledged heartburn. Very thankful for that!
Constipation - not really a problem for me (yet?). Both Dad and the nurse today (Rochelle) told me that that is one of the most common complaints at this point in pregnancy. Thankful that I don't have that either!
Back Pain - I do have back pain (and pain into my tail bone, through my hips and down in the middle of my pelvis, where it feels like the baby would come through) off and on. That has probably been the worst symptom so far. Last night and a few nights ago, I had quite a bit of pain through the middle of the pelvis and in my hips that interrupted my sleep; but it isn't every single night.
Leg Cramps - I have warded off a couple of near-cramps in my left leg by flexing my foot before they had really gotten underway; but I had a strong cramp in my left calf Sunday morning (July 20) as my alarm was going off. I had to jump out of bed at top speed to stand on it and it took a minute to calm down. My calf has been sore since then (the last 36 hours) and it kind of feels like there is a knot in it. I'm going to "monitor" that a little bit, since I know a lot of clots happen in the leg and definitely want to catch a blood clot if I get one (Heaven forbid).
Hormones/Emotions - I feel like I've made it to this point without the stereotypical pregnancy mood swings and emotions; but this past weekend had a touch of them for sure. I was super-sensitive on Saturday and cried when John asked me a simple question about cleaning up the kitchen. I have felt on the verge of tears a few times since then, have been noticeably more irritable and I felt overwhelmed by everything all weekend - especially by the mental to-do list that was running through my head, including everything from the bridesmaid dresses I'm working on to making a baptismal gown for Baby to getting things ready for this weekend's consignment sale to preparing Christmas presents for everyone in the family to the retreat I'll be going on next week. Today (Monday) has been a little better, although I started the day feeling very overwhelmed. The WOD just seemed like it would be too much and I felt like I had no steam for it, but it ended up being okay and I felt a little less overwhelmed afterwards. Guess I can only try to take things one day at a time!

16 Weeks - and Insomnia

To fill in from where I left off in the last update, Wednesday, May 28 was an overbooked day for me! I started with a quick WOD with Mom and Rose, went to Ray's for a few groceries, started the crockpot (with said groceries -- I made beef barbacoa), left for Topeka for my pre-natal appointment, then got groceries at Aldi's and Dillon's, came home and put the groceries away, finished making dinner (served the barbacoa on salads with chopped fresh tomatoes and shredded cheese - yummy!) and then John and I went to Molly's first birthday celebration. We got home after 8 pm and finished eating dinner. By that point, I was feeling pretty bad and could tell that I had overdone it. I went to bed by about 9:30 pm.

Thursday, May 29, was the feast of the Ascension. After going to Mass, I pretty much took it easy all day - the effects of Wednesday were still wearing on me and I had a bad toothache/sinus pressure on the right side of my face. John made dinner on the grill (rosemary and balsamic flank steak and roasted zucchini and summer squash - yummy!). After a few bites of meat and making my way through the veggies, I rounded out dinner for my sensitive mouth with a fruit-yogurt smoothie.

Unfortunately, all that delicious, healthy food came back up right before we went to bed Thursday night -- and my substitute dinner wound up being 3 slightly-stale blueberry muffins. Oh well! Whatever works to fill the stomach and keep it from coming back up!

As of writing this post (Wednesday, June 4), I can't remember what I did Friday of last week... oh yes! I went to the chiropractor in the morning to see if he could help reduce my persistent headache and/or low back ache. It was a very interesting visit, with him pinpointing some unspoken symptoms (recent irritability - because T3 was out of place? - and some possible adrenal overdrive from my left adrenal gland - which could be one of the causes of my insomnia and fitful sleep lately). Interestingly, he adjusted my face and head (as well as neck, shoulders, back, tailbone, pubic bone, intestinal sphincters (!) and knees) and my teeth have felt better ever since! Later, Rose came over and visited on her lunch break; and in the afternoon, Mom came by for a visit.
Friday evening, I didn't feel up to cooking and the dish I had planned (stuffed shells) was going to take almost an hour to bake even after prep and assembly; so we decided to go to Topeka and get dinner at the Olive Garden! It was a really spontaneous outing and fun! The salad, breadsticks, and my fettuccine alfredo hit the spot perfectly! :)

Saturday, May 31, John went to Mass and afterwards, we went to the track and I walked a couple of laps while he jogged. Headed home and did our budget for the week. Then he went to help James (and Claude) with remodeling the back porch, while I spent 4 hours or so finishing the graduation dress I was sewing. I took it over to the graduate-to-be :) when I was finished and it seemed to fit well. While I was there, I got a small sewing job from her dad to take a dress shirt of his and make the long sleeves into short sleeves.
In the afternoon, my sweetie and I had a bit of a miscommunication/misunderstanding, but it ended up clearing the air a lot and making for a really good weekend - thanks be to God for His grace! :) John did dishes while I ironed some clothes, cleared off the dining room table, swept and did a quick mopping. The kitchen and dining room looked so much better after that!
In the evening, Joey and Mary invited us to James and Katie's to play games. It all worked out so well, as we had been debating whether to see if either couple wanted company that night. :) We played Wits and Wagers and had a great time.

Sunday, June 1, we went to Mass and John made brunch. (I'm so spoiled! :)) We took it pretty easy and just visited/talked, went outside for a couple of smokes :), checked on our little garden, and then John helped me plan some main dishes for the next week's menu. While I was figuring out side dishes and making the grocery list, he took a nap and started making pizza for dinner. When I was finished with the grocery list (felt so good to get it done before Monday morning!), I made a cauliflower-romaine-apple salad to go with the pizza.
John made a praise-worthy effort to use only things we already had in the house for pizza toppings. He came up with alfredo sauce, bacon, caramelized chopped shallots, and shredded mozzarella cheese. It was amazing!!! I told him that even though it was just using a motley assortment of what we had on hand, I was declaring it a "repeat"! :)

For dessert, we had chocolate-caramel ice cream with crushed corn flakes and enjoyed a nice thunderstorm that rolled in.

Monday, June 2, I headed into Topeka in the morning, got groceries, came home and got them put away by 1:30 pm -- only possible because I had gotten the menu and grocery list made earlier! It was nice to be home with most of the afternoon left. I took an hour or so break, then spent an hour or so de-junking (culling through all my clothes - putting some in the garage sale pile and storing those that I won't be able to wear for the duration of the pregnancy). In the evening, John helped me carry a lot of garage sale stuff out to the Blazer - it made the living room look a lot better!
Rose came over after work for a smoke and to say hi. We invited her to stay for dinner (Pullman subs - which I had been craving for 4-5 days, and they tasted so good :) - along with cucumber salad and potato chips). John worked out after work and time sure goes fast, so we didn't sit down to dinner until 8 pm! Rose visited until a little after 10 and then John gave her a ride home, since her car is in the shop. We said Rosary and called it a night!

Yesterday (Tuesday, June 3) I "turned" 16 weeks! It was a tired day following a restless night of sleep and a nightmare about John being killed. :-/ Nonetheless, I managed to get some bbq beef started in the crockpot, to wash our sheets, to make stuffed shells (and freeze them), and to make apple cinnamon bread. In the evening, we had bbq beef sandwiches (pretty tasty!), leftover roasted squash and zucchini, and potato chips. John did dishes and we said Rosary (last week of the Rosary Crusade!).
In doing a little research about adrenal fatigue, I found a couple of articles indicating that honey before bedtime can help reduce the amount of cortisol and adrenalin produced by the body - inducing more restful, deep sleep. It was worth a try, so John got me a cup of chamomile tea with honey and made us both toast with honey on it.

I did sleep a bit better last night than the last couple of nights ("only" woke up 5-6 times and my dreams weren't nightmares), so I think I will try using honey again tonight and see if it was coincidental or related.

This morning, I went to the chiropractor for a recheck and got readjusted. It seemed pretty routine, but hopefully will help. I couldn't shake the headache I had woken up with, so I took a couple of ibuprofen and had a cup of coffee -- after an hour or so, I felt better.
This afternoon, I need to continue de-junking, take some stuff over to Mom's for our (eventual) garage sale, and make a fruit salad to go with dinner (John is going to grill chicken for chef's salads). It's been a blah day with a slow, uncomfortable (headachy and back-achy) start and little-to-no motivation... hopefully I can turn that around this afternoon!

To summarize recent symptoms, I've had insomnia (waking up every hour or two and sometimes staying awake for 30+ minutes when I wake up), some strange/vivid dreams, some headaches, and mild-but-persistent low back aches. I've been grouchy/irritable and feeling a little hormonal and emotional. I've also been feeling overwhelmed by not feeling up to doing as much as I mentally WANT to get done.
I feel like my belly is really starting to pop, but it may not be as obvious to other people. I can now feel the underside of my belly on my legs when I lean forward, which is new. :) I also ordered maternity undies yesterday, as my regular ones are starting to bind uncomfortably.

On that note (haha), I will sign off now with hopes of getting a 16-week belly picture soon. :)

15 Week Update

As of writing this post (on Friday, May 30), I am 15w3d along.

A recap of what has been going on since the last update...

On Saturday, May 24, I spent a great part of the day going through boxes of old stuff that we had gotten from Mom and Dad's -- throwing out some of it, setting aside some to sell and/or donate to a thrift shop, and setting aside the rest to keep (hopefully in a more organized, useful way). John spent that time deep-cleaning the kitchen and reorganizing the cabinets. When dinner time rolled around, I didn't feel up to cooking and I think he didn't really want to dirty the kitchen :), so we went over to La Hacienda in Wamego. We got shakes at Sonic afterwards (half-price after 8 pm for their summer special ;-)) and then watched the documentary Step Up to the Plate (about a Michelin-3-star restaurant in France) when we got home. It was a really nice evening after a busy day!

On Sunday evening, we went over to James and Katie's for a cookout and games with Fr. Campbell (before he gets transferred to Australia this August) and some mutual friends. It was fun and really good to spend time with everyone!

Johnny was imitating Father giving his blessing. :) <3

Monday, May 26, was Memorial Day -- John mowed the lawn, and later we went over to Mom and Dad's and picked up Mom's Weber grill which she is lending us for the summer. :) I was so excited to have grilled food at home - I've been craving grilled food at home, instead of "having" to go to someone else's house to have it. :) I made a cucumber-tomato-olive-feta salad as a side and strawberry shortcake for dessert.

my 15-week picture a day early :)

Unfortunately, right before bedtime, I threw up all of that lovely dinner. :'( It seemed like such a waste of delicious food! I was bummed to have to re-fill my stomach with a hot pocket, even though it did the job.

Tuesday, my 15-week mark, I spent a few hours working on the graduation dress I'm sewing for someone...

Wednesday, May 28, I had my second pre-natal appointment. It took awhile for the midwife (Eileen this time) to come in, because they had someone in labor while I was there; but about an hour after my appointment time, she came in. She did a full physical and everything seemed to check out fine!
We reviewed my lab work from my first visit. She said my iron levels were great (12.5); my TSH had been a little high, so she had that re-drawn to see if it has come down since I've gotten into the second trimester. TSH being high in the first trimester is not uncommon, but it sounds like if it stays elevated, we may have to treat for it.
My blood pressure at this visit was 130/68 and (official :)) weigh-in was 169.0. She found a little bit of a split in my abdominal muscles during the physical (about a finger's breadth), but wasn't worried about it at all. I've been having trouble sleeping and asked about using melatonin or valerian root; she wasn't familiar with using either during pregnancy (and said she could look them up), but said I could use benadryl in the meantime or other relaxation techniques (a warm bath, herbal tea, or a glass of warm milk).
Baby's heart beat was in the 140's this time :) and she said my uterus was about 3 fingers below my belly button "right where I'd expect it." So that was all good. :)
